Mozilla is removing Tab Groups and Complete Themes from Firefox

Mozilla is reportedly trying to reduce the number of less-used features of Firefox and make the browser junk-free. With this vision in mind, the company is cutting off two unpopular Firefox features namely Tab Groups and Complete Themes.

Tab Groups was introduced back in 2011 to help users deal with large number of tabs. The idea was to take a bunch of websites and group them together like a folder. Although it might have been useful but Mozilla announced that actually very few users were using that feature and so it decided to kill it off.

Another Firefox feature which will be removed by Mozilla is complete themes. The complete themes, when installed, can overhaul pretty much every aspect of Firefox’s user interface. However with the end of complete themes in Firefox, lightweight themes will not also be dumped. These themes simply add color or an image to the top of the Firefox window and will remain as they are or might gain some extra functionality but that will be limited.

These two changes which will be coming to Firefox soon will affect only a very small group of users who use these functionalities. However the change might definitely go a long way for Firefox to compete with other browsers in the market.

Mozilla makes it possible to try Firefox OS 2.5 on Android phone

Mozilla has launched Firefox OS 2.5 Developer Preview, and the most eye-catching thing is that you can try the OS on your Android phone by simply installing an APK file. The app, which Mozilla calls as 'experimental', replaces several elements of the Android homescreen with Firefox OS elements and also comes with a set of Firefox OS apps for calls, messages, emails, and even an app store. It's actually a launcher with several bundled apps.

Mozilla has mentioned that it had employed several workarounds to provide a consistent user experience to those using Android devices and as such one will find that the Android navigation buttons are overlaid atop the UI. However the back button cannot be used for navigation since Firefox OS employs a single home button.

So if you think that your stock Android user interface has become pretty boring and you can't wait to give a fresh new look to your device, then download the apk from Mozilla's website and become a Firefox OS user now.

P.S. There might be bugs lurking inside.
